“Backing technology-enabled insurance businesses to close Africa's insurance protection gap for over one billion uninsured people.”
3IF Ventures is Africa's first dedicated insurtech venture fund, led by General Partners Anthony Chaillet and Dr. Mario Wilhelm, who bring 40+ years of combined re/insurance and investment experience. The Inclusive Insurance Investment Fund hit its $12 million first close in June 2026, with FSD Africa Investments (FSDAi, backed by the UK's FCDO) and ZEP-RE (PTA Reinsurance Company, a COMESA pan-African reinsurer) as anchor investors, and targets a $30 million final close.
The fund operates as a blended finance vehicle with a catalytic junior capital tranche and a technical assistance facility worth approximately 20% of total commitments. That technical assistance covers product design, distribution strategy, and operational strengthening, which means portfolio companies get more than just capital. The fund targets four thematic areas: climate and disaster resilience, agriculture and rural livelihoods, digital health and wellbeing, and SME and asset protection. At portfolio maturity, 3IF aims to facilitate 5.9 million new insurance policies, improve financial resilience for 3.5 million households and SMEs, and create or retain 1.7 million jobs.
