Overview

Flourish Ventures backs fintech companies advancing what it calls "fair finance": financial products that are accessible, affordable, and genuinely useful for underserved consumers and small businesses, evaluated across Digital Banking, Embedded Finance, Frontier, Infrastructure, Insurtech, and Regtech themes. The firm's clearest African bet is FairMoney (Nigeria), which Flourish led into an $11 million Series A alongside DST Global partners.

Flourish's own writeup of the FairMoney investment frames the thesis precisely: most Lagos residents already have a bank account, but that access hadn't translated into meaningful financial services. FairMoney started with microcredit and expanded into current accounts and savings, evolving from a credit-focused neobank into a broader financial hub. FairMoney went on to raise a $42 million Series B led by Tiger Global, validating the initial Flourish bet.

The firm maintains a standing Africa-relevant portfolio thesis rather than a one-off bet, publishing regularly on African fintech market dynamics through its Fintech Africa content series.
