“We build and invest in pan-African tech-for-good champions with proven business models and inclusive social impact.”
Janngo Capital is a Paris and Abidjan-based venture capital firm founded by Fatoumata Ba, one of Africa's most prominent tech investors and a former Jumia executive who built the company's operations in Ivory Coast and Nigeria. The firm closed its second fund at €73 million (approximately $78M) in October 2024, exceeding its €60M target by 20% and making it Africa's largest gender-equal tech VC fund. The first fund, launched in 2018, was approximately $10M.
What sets Janngo apart is the genuine integration of gender lens investing into its core strategy, not as a side mandate or add-on. 56% of portfolio companies are founded or led by women, and the firm itself is female-founded and female-led. This is not just an ESG checkbox: the team believes that backing diverse founders in underserved markets produces superior returns, and the track record backs it up. The fund's notable exit, Expensya (acquired by Swedish firm Medius), delivered a 48% IRR.
The LP base is institutional and diverse: the African Development Bank Group (AfDB), European Investment Bank (EIB), Mastercard Foundation Africa Growth Fund, U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), IFC, Tunisia's ANAVA fund of funds, and the Ashesi University endowment from Ghana. Janngo was named to the 2025 TIME100 Most Influential Companies list and won the TIME100 Impact Award, which is a meaningful signal of the firm's growing global profile.
The firm plans to invest in 10 to 15 additional companies over the next five years, targeting a total portfolio of 25 to 40 companies. The current portfolio spans 21 startups across Francophone and Anglophone Africa in roughly equal measure.
