Multicoin Capital

Thesis-driven crypto fund built around three macro bets: the Open Finance Renaissance (making every asset class interoperable, programmable and composable on distributed ledgers), the Web3 vision of self-sovereign data, and global, state-free money that expands what "digital gold" can absorb.

Multicoin names only a handful of portfolio companies on its own site (the rest sit behind a 21-category filter with no company names attached). Splits below are computed from the 7 companies we could verifiably classify, not from the full portfolio, which the fund does not publish in list form.

C. Overview

C. Overview

Multicoin Capital is an Austin-based crypto investment firm founded by Tushar Jain and Kyle Samani (Samani has since stepped back from day-to-day investing per public record; Jain remains the public-facing Managing Partner) that runs two distinct books: a liquid token fund dating to 2017, and a venture fund that writes equity and token checks into early and growth-stage companies. Venture Fund III closed at $430 million in July 2022, with checks ranging from $1 million to $50 million per deal, making Multicoin one of the larger checks available to a Solana-aligned founder at Series A and beyond.

The fund is explicit about being thesis-driven rather than opportunistic. Its published thesis names three macro bets: the Open Finance Renaissance (every unit of value, from equities to real estate, becoming interoperable and composable onchain), a Web3 vision centered on self-sovereign data rather than platform-owned data monopolies, and global state-free money that goes beyond the "digital gold" framing of Bitcoin to absorb a much larger share of global monetary value. Portfolio bets that are publicly named, including Solana, Jito, Drift and Hyperliquid, sit inside this frame as infrastructure and DeFi plays that reduce reliance on centralized intermediaries.

Multicoin does not publish a full company-name portfolio list. Its portfolio page instead offers 21 category filters (spanning DeFi, DePIN, Gaming, Payments, Privacy, Stablecoins and Wallets) without attaching company names to them, so the shape of the book is visible even where the names are not.

Key stats:

  • Venture Fund III: $430M, closed July 2022, $1M-$50M per deal
  • Separate liquid token fund running since 2017 (size not disclosed per position)
  • Publicly named bets include Solana, Helium, Hyperliquid, Jito, Drift, Ethena, THORChain
  • Contact form explicitly invites inbound proposals
