Overview

Overview

Musha Ventures was founded in 2011 by Aadil Mamujee, a Kenyan-born product builder and investor who grew up in Mombasa before studying engineering at Cambridge and completing his MBA at Harvard Business School. The fund's name combines his parents' names -- Musti and Shakila -- and also means "home" in Shona (a Zimbabwean language), which speaks to the personal connection driving the fund's Africa thesis. With over 200 investments across 20+ countries, Musha has built one of the more prolific seed-stage portfolios bridging African and global tech ecosystems.

The fund operates as a rolling micro-VC with a deliberately accessible structure: management fees sit at roughly 0.2% annually (about 10x lower than the industry standard), and LP commitment minimums are significantly reduced compared to traditional funds. This model reflects Mamujee's broader philosophy of democratising access to venture capital, both for LPs who want Africa exposure and for founders who need patient, founder-friendly capital at the earliest stages.

What makes Musha distinct in the African funding space is the global portfolio context. About half the investments are in Africa, but the other half span North America, Asia, and Europe -- which means African founders in the portfolio benefit from a cross-continental network that includes co-investment relationships with firms like Andreessen Horowitz, Sequoia Capital, Benchmark, and Founders Fund. For a seed-stage cheque, that network reach is uncommon.
