Paradigm was founded in 2018 by Matt Huang and Fred Ehrsam and describes itself today as a frontier technology firm that "builds and invests in crypto, AI, robotics, and across new frontiers from the earliest stages." The word "builds" is not decoration. Paradigm's engineers maintain some of the most used software in Ethereum: Reth (a Rust Ethereum client), Foundry (the dominant Solidity toolkit), Alloy (EVM libraries), Cryo (chain data extraction) and Solar (a Rust Solidity compiler) all live under the paradigmxyz GitHub organisation. Its research group publishes on AMM design, MEV, auctions and rollups, and that research regularly turns into portfolio companies.
The portfolio page groups investments into AI, Consumer, DeFi, Hardware and Defense, Infrastructure, Payments, and Trading and Markets. Featured crypto names include Uniswap, Coinbase, Hyperliquid, Tempo, Kalshi, Nous Research and Andromeda, alongside non-crypto frontier bets such as Stripe, Citadel Securities, Zipline and Antares. In 2025 Paradigm co-incubated Tempo, a payments-first blockchain, with Stripe, which makes it the closest thing Tempo has to an ecosystem investor.
