Overview

QED Investors is a fintech-exclusive VC firm with nearly $5 billion in assets under management globally and a portfolio that includes Nubank, Credit Karma, and Klarna. QED hired its first investment professional focused on Africa in 2022 and made its first African investment that year, backing Nigerian fintech TeamApt (now Moniepoint) in a $50 million-plus round.

Since then QED has kept writing checks into African fintech at a pace that stands out among US-headquartered funds: Raenest (Nigeria, $11M Series A, February 2025), Stitch (South Africa, $55M, April 2025), FlapKap (Egypt, Pre-Series A, $34M), and Precium (South Africa, $5.2M seed). The firm is explicit that it invests exclusively in financial services businesses, spanning banking, credit and lending, insurance, wealth management, proptech, banking-as-a-service, and embedded finance.

QED runs multiple vehicles: an early-stage fund covering pre-seed through growth, a Growth Fund II for later-stage companies, and Belay/Fontes for formation-stage, pre-product teams. The firm positions itself as a hands-on, long-term partner rather than a passive check-writer.
